The discussion concerning the effects of climate change on the poorer regions of the world (what is generally called “the Global South”) usually hinges on the question of what the inhabitants of the richer countries owe to the inhabitants of the poorer ones. The historical and present causes of man-made climate change can be found in the economic activities of some high- and medium-income countries (the USA, the UK, most EU countries, Russia, Brazil, China, and, increasingly, India).
