The Covid-19 pandemic raised many problems that already existed, but which had not been widely discussed in the public conversation. One of these was how to fairly allocate resources. Debates in Covid centred on two issues: the allocation of vaccinations (both at a global and national level), and policies for deciding which patients to admit to intensive care. But healthcare ‘rationing’ has been a subject of philosophical discussion for a long time before the pandemic.
